photoHello,

This is about my attempt to cycle from John o’Groats to Lands End in September 2009, to raise funds for St. Richard’s Hospice.

I will be trying to update these pages as frequently as possible during the journey, so that friends and family can see how far I’ve got, how many punctures I’ve received, etc.

I hope also that this site might be useful for anyone vaguely considering a similar challenge in the future.

To the right you can see a route plan for each day, and find information about the charity I am supporting.

Update: 11.09.09 20:00 Ballachulish

The owner of the B&B has very kindly let me use his PC to upload a few photos – I’ll attach them to the Day 1 and Day 2 pages to the right. I’ve had two absolutely fantastic days of cycling, only 10 minutes of rain overall. Although it’s been fairly overcast, I’ve still somehow managed to get fairly sunburned.

Thank you for all your messages/texts/donations – It really has been an incredible response and I really appreciate it.

Should make another update on Sunday.

Update: 15.09.09 21:00 Kempsey

Have arrived in Worcestershire after a fairly tough day over the Shropshire hills. I’ve added photos for days 3-6, which you can see by viewing the pages on the right.  A little achey now in knees and lower back, but looking forward to cracking on tomorrow. Puncture count still zero!

Update: 17.09.09 14:00 Exeter

Made some good progess on the speedy flat roads between Cheddar and Exeter this morning, so taking the opportunity to update photos for day 7 and day 8 (so far). This afternoon comes Dartmoor, one of the hilliest sections of the journey. After that only tomorrow left!

Update: 20.09.09 18:00 London

So have returned to London, in one piece, having reached Land’s End on schedule on Friday. I’ve throughly enjoyed the trip – highlights were the beautiful countryside of Scotland and the West Country; lowlights probably spending a night in Carlisle, and rush-hour traffic around Warrington. All that remains is to say an enormous thank you to all of you who have supported in various ways, and have helped raise more than £2,000 for St Richard’s Hospice. If anyone is considering a similar challenge and would like more information on my journey then please feel free to contact me at richard.d.morris(at)googlemail.com.
